    Juniper SSG to J-series Router

I'm going out on a limb to see if anyone has done the SSG to J-series conversion. I heard you replace the CPU inside the box and change the OS from ScreenOS to JunOS. Is it really that easy?

I have never done it personally, but my Juniper rep said that is pretty much the process. Personally, I'd rather use the hardware as a firewall than a router. Even the SSG550 doesn't have that much HP as a router when running on JunOS.

The J-series wont even hold a full table with BGP. I wouldn't waste your time either.

They work great for small routing needs. I have a few of them doing some Metro Ethernet aggregation. You won't really want to do BGP on them, but with the gig interfaces they do well as crossconnect boxes if you only need a few networks.
