ping times with gaming and bittorrent

Is there a way to play online games and keep my bittorrents open? I noticed that if my bitlord is open on my computer my gaming ping times to servers completely suck. Can I tweak this anyone?

Not really. I develope applications that use the web and we have to be very careful with choosing protocols and the I/O they use. I do mostly cell phone apps and they can be just as sensative as games. Generally phones don't get low ping connections unless using wi-fi. We are currently buliding apps that will behave differently depending on what type of connection is bing used by the phones.

The fact is, bittorent requires alot of connections to operate. The constant requests and transmission can negatively affect your connection. This all of course depends on what your downloading and how much.
